Teaching Laboratory of Engineering Materials

I. Main Experiments:

The laboratory is designed mainly for undergraduate students of mechanics-related majors to learn and conduct experiments related to engineering materials, engineering material fundamentals, and other relevant courses.

The main experiments provided by the laboratory include: (1) understanding the basic principles, structures, and applications of metallographic microscopes; (2) preparing metallographic samples; (3) observing and analyzing microstructures in common metal materials; and (4) conducting steel heat treatment experiments and utilizing hardness testers. Through observation and analysis, students will be familiar with the microstructure of iron-carbon alloys in equilibrium, the microstructure of carbon steel after heat treatment, and the microstructures of commonly used alloy steels, non-ferrous metals, and cast iron. They will also develop an understanding of the nature, morphology, and distribution characteristics of phases and constituents in iron-carbon alloys, analyze and master the relationship between structures and properties, and comprehend the impact of heat treatment processes on the structure and properties of steel. By experimenting with heat treatment on steel, students will become skilled in different heat treatment processes and know how to use hardness testers.

The experiments provided by the laboratory include (1) the structure and application of metallographic microscopes, (2) preparation of metallographic samples using microscopes, (3) analysis of binary alloy structures, (4) analysis of equilibrium structures in iron-carbon alloys, (5) heat treatment of steel and microstructure observation after heat treatment, (6) principles and application of hardness testers, (7) microstructural observation of common engineering materials, (8) principles and applications of microhardness testers, (9) application of the video micro-analyzer in metallographic analysis, and (10) sheet tensile experiment and stamping property analysis.

II. Major Equipment:

The laboratory is equipped with an interactive digital microscope classroom, multiple heat treatment furnaces, various hardness testers and microhardness testers, and one universal testing machine. It also has one video device, one miniature testing machine, 20 pre-grinding machines, and 10 polishing machines.
