Research interests

Prof. Zhang’s main research interests include modelling and optimization of static, dynamic and thermal characteristics of manufacturing equipment, cutting performance prediction and real-time compensation method of machine tools, tool life monitoring method, in situ detection of CNC machining accuracy; mechanism and process characteristics of brittle materials in ultrasonic machining, damage formation mechanism and control methods in rotary ultrasonic drilling, ultrasonic micro-nano manufacturing technology, design theory and method of giant magnetostrictive ultrasonic machining system; intelligent manufacturing production line integration and digital twin technology, key technology and system of intelligent assembly, AR/VR assisted assembly guidance and inspection method, digital human based virtual manufacturing technology, etc.

As the principal investigator, Prof. Zhang has completed or is in charge of more than 40 national, provincial and industrial projects, including National Key Research and Development Plan Major Project, National Science and Technology Major Project, National Natural Science Foundation, etc. He has published more than 160 research papers, applied 86 Patents (50 of them were authorized), achieved 28 software copyrights, and received national and provincial level scientific and technology awards 11 times.

Prof. Zhang serves as the council member of China High-tech Industrialization Research Association, Advanced Cutting Technology Council of China Metal Cutting Tool Association and Strategic Alliance of Technological Innovation in Artificial Intelligence Industry, Vice-Chairman of General Aviation Council of China Information Industry Association, fellow of International Association Advanced Materials (IAAM), Board Member of Pakistan Engineering Council International Advisory Board, technical expert of Beijing Science and Technology Commission of China, associate Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of New Industrialization, Editor of Journal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, etc. He was also served as a committee member or session chair and made invited plenary and keynote reports in the international conference for many times.
