On the afternoon of May 12, 2026, Professor Wen Peng, Deputy Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME) at Tsinghua University, met with Professor Ye Wenjing, Associate Head of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics including talent cultivation and research collaboration.
Professor Wen Peng presented recent advancements at Tsinghua DME, particularly the integrated reform in undergraduate admissions and cultivation for the Intelligent Manufacturing and Equipment program, as well as the development of an AI-powered disciplinary knowledge engine. Professor Ye Wenjing shared an overview of MAE's faculty strengths, disciplinary structure, talent cultivation initiatives, and practical explorations in AI-empowered teaching. The two parties engaged in thorough discussions on shared interests, with a focus on AI-assisted teaching and research.
Following the exchange, both sides expressed strong commitment to further strengthening inter-departmental collaboration in talent cultivation and research. They plan to explore specific forms of cooperation—such as faculty and student exchanges, as well as academic visits—under the framework of the existing agreement between the two universities.
